Grapefruit Diet

One of the popular fad diets in Hollywood was the grapefruit diet. Stars and starlets used it as far back as the 1930s. Then in the 70’s it became a piece of fax junk, sent from machine to machine, commonly known as xerox lore. The Mayo Clinic, which is often credited as the diet’s creator, claims to have nothing to do with the unhealthy diet. Originally the grapefruit diet was an Atkins style diet that added one half grapefruit before each meal. There are no snacks allowed on this strict three meals a day diet. Supposedly a person on this diet could lose 10 pounds in only 10 days. The distribution was just as far fetched – no weight loss for four days then five pounds lost all on the fifth day. The claim that grapefruit contains enzymes that burn fat has never been proven. Researchers showed that the diet may work in a 2004 study. Participants in the study lost 3.6 pounds on average in a 12 week span, eating one half grapefruit before each meal. Those who drank the serving of grapefruit juice at each meal lost just slightly less weight in the same period of time. Many of the participants lost more than 10 pounds in 12 weeks. The doctor who conducted the study found that the grapefruit diet seems to reduce levels of insulin. But the weight loss may have also been due to increased levels of exercise. Here are the rules for the grapefruit diet: - Drink eight servings of water a day. - Eat until full. - Eat every item of food listed for each meal because the menus are formulated to burn fat. - Grapefruit is the key – so eat that as specified. - One cup of coffee can be consumed at each meal. - No snacking. - Eat butter if you want. - Avoid sweets and starches such as bread and potatoes. - Eat any amount of meat, salad and vegetables to make you full. - Eat until full in order to maximize weight loss. - Follow the diet 12 days on, 2 days off, 12 days on etc. - Grapefruit comes before every meal - ½ fruit or 18 ounces of the juice. Now you can go try the grapefruit diet. Also check out mediterranean diet

Does the Cookie Diet Actually Work?

The cookie diet may take the cake as the world’s worst ever fad diet. In essence this diet claims that amino acids baked into cookies can control hunger.

The cookie diet has been around for more than 30 years. Maybe it’s completely new to you. And even if you have, you might be wondering if such a strange weight loss plan can actually work.

Fad diets are short term weight loss programs in which people are supposed to lose a lot of weight. They’re popular because the weight loss tips that are central to these plans supposedly result in rapid shedding of excess pounds. Fad diets generally include some super food, like the cookie in the cookie diet, with miraculous weight loss properties. These diets rely on slick pitches that make it seem silly not to buy and try the diet.

The cookie diet was created by a physician named Sanford Siegel in 1975 while he was researching a book on the effect of natural foods on hunger. This cookie diet consisted of patients eating six cookies each day in place of meals, then eating a reasonable dinner. All told the daily caloric intake was about 800 calories. People went wild over the cookie diet to the extent that 14 clinics opened in Florida. It wasn’t long before over 200 doctors were regularly recommending the cookie diet. The diet was quickly expanded to miracle soups and shakes that also contained the amino acids.

There is another version of the cookie diet referred to as the Hollywood cookie diet because it became popular with many Hollywood stars. Stars and starlets made their use of the diet well known, which helped vault it to public attention. Like the original cookie diet this Hollywood version replaced breakfast and lunch with cookies, then allowed a reasonable dinner. Each cookie should contain approximately 150 calories, loaded with fiber, protein and 13 vitamins and minerals.

If you’re thinking of the cookie diet, just forget about it. Remember that good health comes from a balanced diet and an exercise program. Even if the star of your favorite movie claims to love them, avoid so called miracle weight loss foods.

Understanding The Different Types Of Weight Loss Programs

In our everyday conversations there is one topic that comes up more often than not, weight loss.  In fact, many individuals almost seemed to obsess over the fact that they are carrying around a few extra pounds.  Most of the time this is not their fault, TV and magazines help to play a role in how we see ourselves in the mirror everyday.  While it is true that we are all dealing with somewhat of an obesity epidemic, it is also driven by the desire to look like popular stars or people that we may see in a magazine.  Still, there are quite a few of us that could stand to lose a few pounds.  The problem with this is that it can be quite difficult to go it alone.  That is why many individuals join weight loss programs in order to help them.

With all the weight loss programs that are out there, many have become increasingly popular over the years.  Some of the more popular systems offer various food products and even support centers to help you along the way. Some of the well known programs are Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig.  These particular programs have been around for quite some time and have been successful in helping some individuals to finally shed the pounds that they were trying to get rid of.  We are all unique so these types of programs may not appeal to some of us.

There are also weight loss programs that come in the form of a book.Of the more widely known programs are the South Beach diet and of course the Atkins diet. With these programs you'll notice that they have their own line of products that will help with your efforts.  The good part about these programs is the fact that they have helped many people lose an extreme amount of weight.  One issue with these diet systems is that they are not really meant to be a long term solution to your problem.

On a side note, many people have lost a lot of weight with programs geared towards people with certain diseases. For example, there is a program out there that has helped diabetics out with an added benefit of sustained weight loss. The cool thing is is that this diet can be followed for the rest of your life without much effort allowing you to keep the weight off.

With the various weight loss programs available today it’s just a matter of deciding which best fits your needs.  The best thing that you can do is to check several different programs out and try to look beyond the clever advertising.  You should ideally look for a program that offers a permanent solution to your problem and not one that will have you gaining all the weight back.Once you find a program that fits, make it a permanent lifestyle change so you never have to go on a fad diet again.  To make it easy on you, check out my bio below for my number one recommended program.  It's very popular and gets results.
