Grapefruit Diet

One of the popular fad diets in Hollywood was the grapefruit diet. Stars and starlets used it as far back as the 1930s. Then in the 70’s it became a piece of fax junk, sent from machine to machine, commonly known as xerox lore. The Mayo Clinic, which is often credited as the diet’s creator, claims to have nothing to do with the unhealthy diet. Originally the grapefruit diet was an Atkins style diet that added one half grapefruit before each meal. There are no snacks allowed on this strict three meals a day diet. Supposedly a person on this diet could lose 10 pounds in only 10 days. The distribution was just as far fetched – no weight loss for four days then five pounds lost all on the fifth day. The claim that grapefruit contains enzymes that burn fat has never been proven. Researchers showed that the diet may work in a 2004 study. Participants in the study lost 3.6 pounds on average in a 12 week span, eating one half grapefruit before each meal. Those who drank the serving of grapefruit juice at each meal lost just slightly less weight in the same period of time. Many of the participants lost more than 10 pounds in 12 weeks. The doctor who conducted the study found that the grapefruit diet seems to reduce levels of insulin. But the weight loss may have also been due to increased levels of exercise. Here are the rules for the grapefruit diet: - Drink eight servings of water a day. - Eat until full. - Eat every item of food listed for each meal because the menus are formulated to burn fat. - Grapefruit is the key – so eat that as specified. - One cup of coffee can be consumed at each meal. - No snacking. - Eat butter if you want. - Avoid sweets and starches such as bread and potatoes. - Eat any amount of meat, salad and vegetables to make you full. - Eat until full in order to maximize weight loss. - Follow the diet 12 days on, 2 days off, 12 days on etc. - Grapefruit comes before every meal - ½ fruit or 18 ounces of the juice. Now you can go try the grapefruit diet. Also check out mediterranean diet

Why Your Weight Isn’t Important For Getting Fit

Sometimes the wording we use makes a problem harder to solve. If you’re too fat, you say you want to lose weight. But whether they know it or not, what they should concentrate on is healthy fat loss. Understanding the distinction & acting on it will all the difference.

Why Losing Weight Isn’t the Answer

Even doctors and nutritionists sometimes fail to draw a distinction between being overweight and carrying too much fat. Imagine that you and your identical twin go to the doctor for a physical. The doctor tells you that you’re both overweight and recommends that you lose 20 pounds. Your literal-minded twin joins a respected weight loss program to do exactly that as fast as possible.

You being a non-conformist and having read this article, know that there’s a big difference between losing weight and losing fat. So you decide to follow a different path. Instead of concentrating on losing weight, you start eating healthy, filling meals. You also get serious about that workout program you’ve been saying you were going to start, and begin lifting weights and running regularly. You’ve decided to concentrate on a nutrition and exercise program that will make you fitter while reducing your body fat percentage, rather than freaking out over your exact weight.

Half a year passes and you and your twin are back at the doctor for your next physical. Your twin lost all the weight the doctor wanted them to, but you’ve only lost a few pounds. Despite their success at doing what they were told to, the doctor tells your twin that they need to lose another 10 pounds. In the next breath the doctor tells you that you’re in great shape and don’t need to lose any more weight. Do you understand what happened here?

Fat Loss, Not Weight Loss, Is What Matters

The doctor gives you and your twin different instructions now because the numbers on the scale aren’t the most important thing. Your twin has been on an extreme weight loss diet for six months. They’ve lost a good bit of body fat. But they’ve also lost a good amount of muscle, along with a lot of water weight. Their body fat percentage (the ratio of fat to lean tissue in their body) is almost unchanged. And look at them. They look skinnier than they used to, but they’re still kind of flabby. They’re also low on energy and generally don’t look so good.

You’re a completely different story. Sure, you didn’t come close to losing the amount of weight the doctor recommended. But with all that exercise and healthy eating, you’ve added some muscle to your frame. And even though the number on the scale hasn’t changed much, the shape of your body has changed and you fit into those old jeans that were too tight just a few months ago. And you don’t look flabby anymore.

While the scale doesn’t show much change, you’ve added muscle and lost fat, greatly reducing your body fat percentage. Thanks to the fitness program you’ve been following, you’re also feeling alert and energetic all the time. If you ignore the scale and look in the mirror instead, you’re clearly in better shape than you’ve been in a long time.

Get It Right

You need to get this one right. Concentrating on weight loss instead of fat loss is a big mistake and a big reason why people fail so miserably. Find a fitness program that suits your life and follow it. Soon you’ll be losing fat and getting fit instead of obsessing about your weight. You’ll see and feel the results and no one will care about the number you see on the scale.

People everywhere adopt all different types of methods to get the body that they want. They join health clubs and exercise for thirty to sixty minutes three or more times a week, they make alterations to their diets and meal schedules, but sometime even the most dedicated need some extra help which it comes those last few pounds. This is the point when some people choose weight loss products in order to help them succeed.

The weight loss supplement industry is a booming business, loaded with customers in search of a quick fix for their health and appearance issues, but don’t let the record number of sales mislead you, many over the counter weight loss supplements can lead to more disappointment than positive results.

If it appears to be too good to be true,,,

Beware of any over the counter supplement that promises dramatic results in very little time without making any other changes to your daily routine. No pill or potion can replace the need for a healthy diet and workout program.

Relying solely on the claims of the supplement manufacturers can lead to disappointment and may even lead to health related disorders.

Do Your Research

Very few people who consider taking weight loss supplements ever discuss it with their doctors. There are good reasons for disclaimers on medicinal products as well as for workouts about consulting your health professional before beginning. Your health professional should be able to tell you if a particular workout or supplement will work for you, they will also be able to warn you about products that may do more harm than good.

What to look for

The first (and most ideal) thing to look for would be an FDA approval. An FDA approval would be something that could totally put your mind at ease about both the claims and safety of the product. Unfortunately though, the supplement industry isn’t regulated by the FDA, so very few weight loss supplements and fat burners will come with an FDA approval.

The second thing to look for, and much more easily found in the supplement industry, would be natural ingredients. There are several weight loss supplements on the market derived from natural ingredients that yield results when taken along with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Hydroxycut contains many natural ingredients (green tea extract, coca extract and gmnestra sylvestre) and has been proven to work reasonably well without causing unpleasant side effects.

Deep contains natural products such as ginger root and white willow bark. Hoodia and caffeine, and seems to yield positive results in the weight loss department while the main side effect listed was only too much energy with the consumption of the recommended dosage.

The greatest concern for users of diet medication is that the medication doesn’t do more harm than good. If you consult your health professional before you start and use a supplement that comes from natural product and don’t epxect drastic changes then you should be able to get good results from over the counter weight loss products.

Losing fat is always on everyone’s mind, but when it comes to putting the fat loss plan in action most of us back off because we aren’t game enough to follow it. Losing fat not only makes us look better but also makes our body’s health condition better as well. When we start to lose fat, we are stepping into the realm of living a normal healthy life. After all, health is wealth, isn’t it? There are 5 easy steps to follow a fat loss plan.

For the first step, you need to understand how committed you should be to follow these easy fat loss plans and make sure your mind and body are ready to take this important step to come closer to a fat free, healthy life.

Then we come to the second and not so difficult step, working out. You should start setting up a schedule for daily long walks in the morning. You could also take up a sport like tennis so that you can start moving your body for a change. Another tip is to stop using your car as often as you used to do and start walking short distances like going to the store. A little exercise never killed anyone so you should stop putting it off. The more you work out the more unwanted fat you end up losing in the process of exercising.

You can also consider going to a gym if you think you are up to it. Remember, starting is always fun, continuing it isn’t always as fun. So, if you’re going to work out, please make sure that you will do it everyday, because if you aren’t going to, the work out sessions you do put in won’t have as much effect on your body. You need to workout everyday without fail if you want to kiss your fat goodbye. We bet that following this step in the fat loss plan is easier than you expected.

Now we come to step 3, where we need to get rid of all the fattening food in your refrigerator and replace it with lean protein like fresh fish, which is rich in the highest quality of naturally occurring protein that can be found. Also, chicken, lean beef, nuts and low fat dairy products are also good sources of protein for our body, so add them into your diet as well.

Besides protein, you need to eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible. The more greens you eat the healthier you will be. Most vegetables are 100% natural and fat free. They also give your body loads of vitamins, minerals and fiber, and at the same time bring down your calorie intake.

For step 4, you might want to start drinking green tea. It is famous for increasing your metabolism and burning body fat, even when you don’t increase your daily exercise. This means that you’ll burn more calories at rest when you add green tea to your everyday diet.

Then we come to step 5. This one is the best one, make sure you get sufficient rest, and make sure to sleep well. Plenty of rest will make sure that your body doesn’t store unnecessary fat. It also gives you the energy to get through your day and exercise. Now wasn’t that an easy to follow fat loss plan?
