About half (47%) of women and around 30% of men have reported that they will be speding less on gifts this year compared to last. A large proportion of the men interviewed (75%) said that they would be changing their buying habits by taking advantage of pre-Christmas sales.

Many are turning to online shopping this year with around 28% of women and 43% or men reporting that they would be buying some or all of their Christmas gifts online. Many of the parents interviewed have reported that they tend to leave the purchase of high value items for their children until last, particularly if they are buying bulky items. This avoids having to find secure hiding places away from prying eyes.

Advice for consumers who want to save some cash this Christmas is to shop around, both online and in the high street. Many stores are offering some outstanding pre-Christmas bargains with discounts as high as 25%.
